Pharmacy Residency Programs at Johnson City Medical Center
Welcome to the Ballad Health Pharmacy Residency program at The Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC). Our program builds upon the Doctor of Pharmacy education by giving residents the experience of serving a growing community with diverse needs. We offer a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency and a Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Critical Care Pharmacy Residency.
JCMC is a 445-bed tertiary referral center located in Northeastern Tennessee. JCMC is one of five Level 1 Trauma Centers in the state of Tennessee and is a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center. JCMC is part of Ballad Health, an integrated healthcare delivery system serving 29 counties in Northeastern Tennessee, Southwestern Virginia, Northwestern North Carolina, and Southeastern Kentucky.
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program began in 2010 and is fully accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
JCMC also serves as a practice site for introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences for Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University.
Our purpose
Residents who successfully complete our PGY1 residency program will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS) and pursue advanced education and training opportunities, including PGY2 residencies.
Residents who successfully complete our PGY2 Critical Care residency programs will be prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certified in the advanced critical care practice area.
