At Bristol Regional Medical Center's PGY1 pharmacy residency program we work collaboratively with the patient, family and all members of the healthcare team to promote safe, effective and fiscally responsible pharmacotherapy.

Bristol Regional is part of Ballad Health, which is an integrated community health improvement organization serving 29 counties of the Appalachian Highlands in Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Northwest North Carolina, and Southeast Kentucky. The health system includes 21 hospitals.

About the pharmacy

The Bristol Regional pharmacy is a progressive pharmacy department with a family atmosphere. The department employs approximately 20 pharmacists and 30 technicians.

Pharmacy services provided at Bristol Regional include:

  • Decentralized clinical monitoring and rounding
  • Pharmacokinetic dosing service
  • Anticoagulation therapy management
  • Sterile compounding
  • Outpatient infusion services
  • Education to nursing and physician staff

The pharmacy department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Bristol Regional serves as an introductory and advanced practice site for East Tennessee State University’s Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy and Appalachian College of Pharmacy.

Educational leadership

Residency Program Director – Ann Hylton, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP

Ann Hylton is a clinical pharmacy specialist at Bristol Regional. Dr Hylton obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University in 2007. She completed her PGY1 at Primsa Health (formerly Palmetto Health Richland) in Columbia, SC, and her PGY2 at the same institution in critical care.

Bristol is part of the growing Tri-Cities region of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. This picturesque area offers an abundance of exciting cultural and recreational outdoor activities while maintaining its mountain heritage and small-town charm.
