Neurosurgery in Johnson City, TN

What do we do?

Brain

Our highly trained and board-certified neurosurgeons have extensive experience treating disorders and diseases of the brain.

Brain conditions we treat:

  • Tumors
  • Brain vascular diseases
  • Aneurysms
  • Cerebrovascular disease
  • Hemorrhages
  • Brain infections and many more.

Our neurosurgeons utilize the most advanced techniques and minimally-invasive procedures, putting you on the pathway to health and wellness.

Also, our surgeons are leaders in stereotactic brain surgery where lesions, frequently tumors, are removed via the assistance of image guidance which results in a smaller incision, which facilitates improved wound healing and smaller scars.

Spine

Our accomplished team of spine surgeons has the expertise and leading-edge technology necessary to ensure you receive the very best, minimally invasive spine care possible.

Traditional spine surgery is performed as “open surgery,” meaning the area of focus is opened with a long incision, allowing the surgeon to view and access the area of concern. Our surgeons prefer to use a minimally-invasive surgical technique that avoids damage to the muscles surrounding the spine. In most cases, minimally-invasive spine surgery results in less pain after surgery and allows for a rapid recovery.

It is important to note that while a minimally-invasive approach is preferred by our surgeons, some conditions still require the open method. Our advanced team of neurosurgeons will evaluate your medical condition and strive to choose the method that is best for you.

Spine conditions we treat:

  • Spinal ruptured and herniated discs
  • Spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal)
  • Spinal instability
  • Spinal deformity
  • Spinal fractures
  • Spinal vascular abnormalities and many more.

Physical medicine & rehabilitation

It’s been estimated that as many as 80% of the population will experience a back problem at some point in their lifetime.

Surgery is not always necessary, and at East Tennessee Brain and Surgery Center we take the most conservative and least invasive approach.

Conditions such as degenerative disc disease, disc herniation and spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spine) can be treated with conservative non-invasive methods such as physical therapy, exercise and/or bracing.

Relief is often achieved through nonsurgical options such as the implanting of spinal stimulators, intrathecal pumps (a target drug delivery system), nerve blocks and trigger point injections.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation procedures we do:

  • Cervical and lumbar epidural steroid injections (ESIs)
  • Trigger point injections
  • Facet joint injections
  • Cervical and lumbar SNRB or transforaminal nerve blocks
  • Lumbar sympathetic blocks and many more

Peripheral nerve

Your peripheral nerves are those that are not in your brain and spinal cord. A disorder within your peripheral nervous system (PNS) distorts messages between your brain and the rest of your body. There are more than 100 kinds of peripheral nerve disorders affecting one or many nerves.

Our physicians are trained in treating a wide range of peripheral nerve disorders that typically begin with numbness, pain, burning or tingling, muscle weakness and sensitivity to touch.

Peripheral nerve conditions we treat:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Ulnar neuropathy
  • Foot drop injury
  • Malignant nerve sheath tumors
  • Meralgia paresthetica and many more
