Children’s Oncology and Hematology Services
All pediatric hematology and oncology care at Niswonger Children’s Hospital is provided through the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic, an outpatient clinic located in the hospital.
The St. Jude Affiliate Clinic in Johnson City – one of only eight clinics in the nation that are part of the St. Jude Affiliate Program – is a partnership between St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, ETSU and Niswonger Children’s Hospital.
About the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic
We think of the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic as a “hospital without walls.” The clinic is part of the St. Jude mission to extend advanced care and benefits to more children.
Our professionals work closely with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital staff to deliver protocol-related care to hematology and oncology patients.
The affiliate clinic meets the high care standards St. Jude requires and is audited every year to confirm our ongoing capability and commitment to quality.
Cancer treatment
We receive more than 3,000 outpatient visits every year and follow more than 300 children with malignant cancers, offering children and young adults the highest quality of care with compassion and dedication.
Blood disorder treatment
We also treat many children with congenital bleeding disorders and a variety of other hematological problems.
The First Regional Hemophilia Program, a state-sponsored program for congenital bleeding disorders, is housed in the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic and has quarterly programs for children and adults with hemophilia.
Our children’s cancer team
The clinic also offers a number of support team members, including:
- Chemotherapy-certified pediatric nurses
- Hematology/oncology specialists
- A social worker
- Child life specialists
