The Family Birth Center at Franklin Woods Community Hospital has 20 private rooms:
While mothers are encouraged to keep the baby in their room as much as possible, we provide 24/7 access to a nursery outfitted with 16 bassinets.
Traditional nurse stations have been replaced with “touchdown stations” that make communication with family members easier.
Also, our reception area looks out onto a healing garden.
Our nurses focus on caring for mother and baby as one. And we encourage parents to spend as much time as possible with their baby.
This helps promote breastfeeding and a positive bonding experience. It also helps create a smooth transition when you and your baby leave the hospital.
Parents find that this decreases their anxiety about caring for their babies at home.
The staff of the Family Birth Center focuses on providing as much one-on-one care and education as possible – both in the classroom and the birthing room.
We want to make parents confident about taking care of their baby after they leave the hospital.
Our conference room provides training space where you can learn important skills like infant CPR and giving baby a bath.
All birthing classes – breastfeeding classes, sibling classes and more – are offered to expecting families at no charge.
In 2016, the Family Birth Center became the first hospital in Tennessee to earn Perinatal Care Certification from The Joint Commission.
This certification program recognizes Joint Commission-accredited hospitals that are committed to achieving integrated, coordinated and patient-centered care for mothers and their newborns.
Cesarean sections are performed in the two operating room suites in the Family Birth Center. And mothers who have C-sections can recover right in their private rooms.
