Ballad Health has selected Brooke Davis to serve as the chief financial officer of Johnston Memorial Hospital, Smyth County Community Hospital and Russell County Hospital, effective Dec. 1, 2024.

In her new role, Davis will oversee the financial operations of those three Southwest Virginia hospitals, including strategic financial planning, development and management of operating budgets and coordination of fiscal performance to align with the hospitals’ goals. She will also provide leadership on financial strategy, reporting and optimization initiatives to support operational efficiency and ensure the delivery of exceptional care to the community.

Davis brings more than five years of executive experience in healthcare finance to this role, most recently serving as chief financial officer for Ballad Health's behavioral health service line. In that capacity, she focused on productivity, expense reduction and optimizing revenue capture, while collaborating on payor contracting strategies and meeting financial commitments outlined under the health system's Certificate of Public Advantage.

“I am extremely honored to accept this new role at Johnston Memorial, Smyth County Community Hospital and Russell County Hospital,” said Brooke. “Having grown within Ballad Health, I’ve seen firsthand the dedication and passion our teams bring to serving our communities. I am committed to driving financial strategies that enhance our ability to deliver excellent care while meeting the needs of our patients and team members. These hospitals have a rich history of innovation and excellence, and I’m excited to contribute to their ongoing success. Together, we will build a strong foundation to ensure a bright future for our patients, team members and the community.”

Davis began her career at Ballad Health in 2019 as a financial analyst, supporting more than 200 departments through analysis of key performance indicators and helped develop operating budgets for various service lines, including nursing, women's services and Niswonger Children's Hospital.

“Brooke is an exceptional leader with a proven track record of driving financial excellence across multiple service lines,” said Bob Bender, chief financial officer of Ballad Health’s Northern Region.

“Her expertise in operational efficiency, budget management, and strategic planning, combined with her commitment to collaboration and innovation, make her an ideal choice to serve as chief financial officer for Johnston Memorial, Russell County Hospital, and Smyth County Community Hospital. Brooke’s ability to align financial strategy with the needs of our patients and team members is a tremendous asset, and I am confident her leadership will help these hospitals continue to thrive. We are excited to see the positive impact she will bring to our organization and the communities we serve.”

Davis quickly advanced to a leadership role in 2021 when she became an assistant chief financial officer for Ballad Health, where she was responsible for financial planning and management of operating budget functions for three entities, whose annual net revenues totaled more than $130 million. She also worked closely with case management teams and physicians to identify and reduce discharge barriers for length of stay reduction and worked with hospital administration to provide leadership on operational and financial improvements to achieve target goals.

“Brooke Davis is a rising star in healthcare finance, and we are fortunate to have her expertise,” said John Jeter, chief executive officer of Johnston Memorial and Bristol Regional Medical Center.

“During her time at Ballad Health, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and financial acumen, particularly in her work with behavioral health, where she navigated complex financial landscapes with outstanding results. Her ability to balance fiscal responsibility with a focus on patient-centered care is a tremendous asset. I am confident that Brooke will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission of providing world-class care. Her energy, passion, and vision align perfectly with our hospital’s commitment to excellence.”

A recipient of The Business Journal of Tri-Cities’ 40 Under Forty honor, Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and marketing management from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in business administration from East Tennessee State University.
