Nurse Residency

Ballad Health is committed to supporting the next generation of nursing professionals through the Nurse Residency program. Our program eases the transition from novice nurse to professional nurse. We aim to develop confident, knowledgeable nurses by providing specialized orientation and individualized support throughout the first year of employment.

This program is designed to recruit select nurses who are highly motivated, compassionate and striving for excellence in nursing practice. Nurse Residents will benefit from nursing experts and focused training that will enhance time management and critical thinking skills, providing the new nurse with a strong foundation for their nursing career.

There are a limited number of placements available per graduation date for this competitive program. We only select the top candidates in each graduating class, and we keep our cohorts small so that we can truly invest in our residents.

Program benefits

Residency curriculum expands upon the basic new graduate orientation by incorporating:

  • Designated Education Unit (DEU) orientation
    • The DEU specializes in developing foundations in critical thinking to ensure a smooth onboarding process for residents.
    • Residents will be paired with a preceptor dedicated to the development of their critical skill concepts.
      • Each DEU will offer reduced patient assignments to optimize one-to-one guidance between preceptor and resident.
  • Seminars
    • Continue your professional development with classroom-based trainings.
  • Evidence-based practice project
    • Throughout your residency, you’ll work on a project to help you see first-hand how you can enhance nursing workflows, improve patient outcomes and promote fiscal responsibility.
  • Mentorship
    • You will build a collaborative relationship with an experienced nurse to support personal and professional growth.

Nurse Resident qualifications
