What is a community health needs assessment?

In order for Ballad Health to serve its region most effectively, it is essential to understand each community’s individual needs. Ballad Health conducts community health needs assessments to build a picture of the health of the residents within its service areas. Primary data is obtained through individual surveys and focus groups with participants from the local communities, while secondary data is collected from national, state, regional, and county-specific sources.

Throughout this community health needs assessment process, high priority is given to determine the health disparities and available resources within each community. Community members from each county meet with Ballad Health representatives to discuss current health priorities and identify potential solutions. The information gathered from a local perspective, paired with county, state, and national data, helps to communicate the region’s health situation in order to begin formulating solutions for improvement.
